Thank you so much thabossnthamrs! Change starts with each individual, truly, and the more that we realize this, the more we may see some progress. The thing is, many folks will never admit that they’re the culprit, that they’re guilty of judging someone. Instead many grow defensive and insensitive and as I said, sometimes they don’t even realize this, and the saddest part is when two people who love each other cannot communicate about this, because one, simply refuses to listen with an open heart.

With this world going the way its going I don’t know if we will ever be able to do this. Its sad because pets can and we can’t. Or won’t, whichever you prefer. However, there are a select few who think along the lines of what you are speaking of and maybe those few people can spark change. Great post!

Rock….”spew” ….yeah that’s fitting. As for Misogynistic, yes, it almost negates everything else in the song. Its like he’s trying to solicit and win over those dubbed “conscious” and empowered listeners, while at the same time, satisfy the fans who live for the raunchy, dirty, sexist linguistic punch lines. I mentioned to Joe in a previous comment that its interesting that Kanye would choose to go such a lyrical route, demeaning women, considering the role model that his mother seemed to be, but also taking into account, the extreme, vanity oriented choice that she made to go under the knife for a tummy tuck and not make it out alive. One would of hoped, that her death would have humbled him to the point of respect, reflection and growth. That he’d somehow bring himself to express through his music how beautiful women are without having to go to such extremes, but NO….not yet at least. May his mom rest in peace and touch him spiritually, so that he may wake up someday. I find myself “waking up” little more and more each day as we all probably should.

To me…… this song is just spew. It feels easy, and it’s also pretty misogynistic. I wonder if he would say this if this were his first album, and I say that because the song is unfocused, it’s all over the place, it sounds like he was in a bad mood that day and just needed to spray arrogant, and he’s done that before, he does it all the time, and so to be fair, that can go along with hip hop swag, but I still don’t buy this song at all. I actually like Kanye, or I should say I like his abundant gifts, but as far as being an important artist, and you mention immortal technique, to me, not so much with regards to Kanye, I don’t believe him, or I should say, I only believe him sometimes, which i guess can be said for most people, but he has “access”, and so, he should think more about that, and stop talking about coming on people’s spouses blouses. That’s just stupid shit, and demeans the rest of the song, you can’t be one person and then another person a verse later. But hey, what do I know? Millions of people will download this by the time you finish reading my comment.

I have heard a lot about Ai Weiwei – he has been on several NPR radio programs and he seems like SUCH a fascinating person. I have been wanting to do more research on him and try to see one of his exhibits if it ever comes to the area. Thanks for posting this and reminding me of the research I want to do. He is such an inspiration!

Good points (discriminated, etc, perhaps…). I raised three daughters and a step-daughter, and I have two sisters… SO! I am not kind on anyone who disrespects women, regardless of the reason or motive. I think that if one feels so unsure about one’s manhood that the only way to feel “secure” is to insult women, it’s time to seek professional help, because fame will not absolve or excuse the behavior. I also understand trauma (including historical trauma), but the anger should not be directed at the women that birth you, raise you and/or love you. Well, thanks for the interaction.

Yes! Yes! And Yes! …..Wow, his demeaning, disgusting, recycled and reused, rap star’s go to, bust “a you know what” lyrics went over my head, I didn’t pay attention to it. Clearly desensitized, I heard it less, and the contradiction of him saying “eff you and your Hampton House” while he’s living the MANSION lifestyle resonated louder. Did the Hamptons boycott, or hurt Kanye’s feelings at some point? Was he, or someone he knows discriminated against in The Hamptons, regardless of their celebrity status and money? I won’t speculate further, its useless. Whatever the case, I recognize that while Kanye might be shining the light on something very valid with this notion of “New Slaves” and private prisons, since his semen has debuted along with the “New Slaves” message, then YES, how could we take him seriously? Since Kanye’s mother died under the knife to reach near perfection via a tummy tuck, I would have hoped that he’d humble himself and expand his advocacy to include honoring women, in memoriam of his mother. Perhaps, not enough fans, or folks are calling him on it, and so its the furthest thing from his mind. Only Kanye knows.

I very much doubt that IT would take up the invitation. These are two pots made of different clay. And as always, which I find a bit repulsive, “artists” like Kanye cannot get away from lyrics that are demeaning to women, and it doesn’t matter if the woman is from the Hamptons or Brooklyn Heights. Half of the lyrics are either directly or indirectly demeaning to women. Well, at least he’s not calling them “Bitches”, which is a step in the right direction. He has the right to sing whatever he wants, and people have the right to listen and love it, but the part of the message that could be useful gets lost in half of the lyrics that are insulting to women. You know what I mean, right?
