Design by Ebony Brown: 500 NAMES

New graphic design work! I’m waiting to hear back from Rock WILK, to see if he likes this design. What do you all think? I usually make two or three iterations of a design for a client but this time I only made ONE – for some reason, I felt very strongly about it, although I’m not quite sure how this design unfolded without  the use of a single photograph. I’ll have an opportunity to add some later because for every 50 something donors, I could possibly create a new poster  listing the latest contributors until the campaign goal of 500 names/donors is reached AND it will be reached – I believe in this artist. I happen to be a proud donor, the very first one for this particular fundraiser and if you dig Theater Arts, music  and true life stories that heal, help and inspire people of all ages, from all walks of life, then take my word and learn more about this project and consider donating too – wow – that would make my day! I don’t know any other artist out there right now that deserves your donation more. Rock WILK is a massive talent and an incredible human being. Help me, help him! If you do actually donate, please let me know.

I’ve seen Rock’s Musical, BROKE WIDE OPEN three times and each time that I’ve seen it, I’ve been moved to tears, to laughter, to deep gratitude, and to a keen sense of renewal, awareness, loss and love. Performed nationally and internationally, the next show  is scheduled for March 2012, in Trenton, New Jersey at the Passage Theater – save the ball park date! More information is on his website.

  1. Ebony, your graphic design work is superb! But, pretty much everything you do is great. I donated to this cause because of you. That was stated when I donated. In addition, I requested that the album and tickets be given to you, or charity. There is no way I will attend, nor will I probably listen to the album. Sorry for being so honest, but I am a straight shooter. Keep giving unselfishly of your time and talents; and good things will continue to come your way. And always remember, (it takes more than just a good appearance to make a woman beautiful, it also takes a strong mind and a strong heart).

    • Steve Young!!!! Thank you for YOUR DONATION!!! What a tremendous gesture AND What a great way to start my day – our day! I am impressed, its rare when people show more than or just as much as they tell, and you definitely showed your support! Ughhh, I’m grateful. I’ll have your 2 tickets go to two deserving youths who are of the fostering or adoption community, my 2 tickets are going to them too, so 4 tickets will go to some very lucky youth, bound to be moved and changed by this musical that is BROKE WIDE OPEN. Also, thanks for your feedback and for liking the design! Everyday, I’m working towards being more diligent, more efficient, more open, more honest, more giving, more attentive, more focused, more adamant about living my dreams day by day, like right now, You know? AND Sure, I’ll remember what you’ve stated above, as I agree. Now will you remember something for me?

Remember that a woman with a “good” appearance could be more than her appearance, there could be buried treasures and talents within her, like the gift of writing, self expression, or a certain level of conscientiousness (or whatever else), and each time that her gifts are questioned or doubted in direct relationship to her looks (ie. there’s no way that you look like you do AND write or think like you do), her gifts go uncelebrated despite the simultaneous praise (because they contradict) and if she isn’t strong, in some cases, she may grow to doubt herself and be more pretentious, and more protective and shallow, focusing mainly on her appearance because its what society understands and accepts, and who knows what she’ll then perpetuate and pass on to her children. Yes, its her own responsibility of how she deals with or handles this type of doubt but why subject her to it in the first place? (Rhetorical). You and I have been here before and its my hope that the more you share my world here, the closer you’ll get to knowing that there’s no smoke screen or deception here, just me, as I am.I’ve taken your doubts & questions in stride, so I believe that I’m strong. You’ve inspired me to work even harder and I’m glad we’re connected. Your gesture of donation trumps all! You wouldn’t have done it if you didn’t trust me or believe in me – I recognize this. :) I’m wishing you the most beautiful Monday yet, and thanks again for all of your support!

      • Ebony, you are strong and wonderful. I was making a general statement, when I said (It takes more than just a good appearance to make a woman beautiful). If there is anybody in this world, that has a strong mind and heart it is you. Again and again, I am not the only one that sees that. I talk about you, and show your work off all the time. People believe you to be a genius. And if I ever dented your pride I am sorry, but what is so special about you, no one can dent your dignity. Also, I have no idea why our paths crossed, but I am glad they did? Hopefully, I answered your last request. One last general statement. It is a good thing to have the right mate to travel the tough road of life.
